Summiting Mount Everest is one of the most exciting, life-changing adventures. At 8,848 metres, Everest is the planet’s highest mountain and also harbours some of the harshest conditions for humans. Wind reports up to 160 kilometres per hour aren’t uncommon, while temperatures can dip to minus 50 degrees Celsius. Thin air is also an extreme challenge thrown into the mix, with oxygen levels less than a third of what is available at sea level.
Climbing a mountain like Everest takes a great deal of commitment, perseverance and many strokes of luck. Most people prepare for years for the expedition, as one requires multiple skill sets to tackle the route up the mountain.
